Sam Laurila is a steady and poised defenseman for the University of North Dakota Hockey team, recognized for his composure, vision, and strong two-way play. Every shift, he provides reliability on the back end, combining defensive awareness with the ability to transition the puck efficiently.

A native of Moorhead, Minnesota, Laurila grew up with a strong connection to the region’s hockey culture and the pride of representing the green and white. Before arriving at UND, he refined his game with the Fargo Force in the USHL, where he developed into a dependable defender capable of handling key matchups.

Laurila is known for his hockey IQ, competitiveness, and calm presence under pressure. Trusted to make smart plays in critical moments, his team-first approach makes him an important part of North Dakota’s defensive core.
