Ian Engel is a dependable defenseman for the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks, recognized for his steady presence, strong gap control, and willingness to play a physical brand of hockey. A native of  Hortonville, Wisconsin, Engel came to UND after developing his game in junior hockey, where he earned a reputation as a reliable, hard-nosed blueliner.

Joining the Fighting Hawks in 2025, Engel brings maturity, toughness, and consistency to the UND blue line. With his defensive awareness, shot-blocking ability, and team-first mentality, he provides stability on the back end while embodying the hard-working culture that defines North Dakota hockey.
