James made an immediate impact in his first year with the Fighting Hawks, earning NCHC All-Rookie Team honors after posting 8 goals and 16 points in 35 games. His ability to drive the net, finish in tight, and battle in all three zones quickly made him a fan favorite at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
